Smart waste industry to soar by 2023

The installation of smart waste sensors is expected to reach 1.5 million by 2023.

Research by Berg Insight shows how the smart waste industry is expected to soar from the 379,000 installed sensors in 2018 to 1.5 million by 2023.

Currently, Europe accounts for more than 50% of installed smart waste sensors, with the UK, France, Spain, Benelux and the Nordics seeing particularly good markets.

North America is less developed, with only 85,000 installed waste sensors in 2018.

The rest of the world is expected to see the biggest growth with a growth of 36.5%, reaching nearly half a million installed sensors by 2023.

Levi Osling, IoT analyst at Berg Insight: “the interest in smart waste sensor technology has increased significantly over the past 18 months and is now increasingly seen as an integral part of any smart city strategy.”

How Pinacl can help

Pinacl can provide smart enterprise grade waste management solutions for cities and businesses.

Embedding an ultrasonic level sensor could help alert city workers when they are ready to be emptied, even gathering trend data over time. Councils will be able to understand which bins are being used more often, as well as scheduling pickups at the optimum time.

Not only does this help slash fuel consumption on wasted journeys but can also prevent overflowing bins which can be an eyesore or even be a hazard to the community.

Pinacl is a market leader in Digital Transformation and is currently working with a number of councils who are keen to trial and adopt new technology, recognising the potential for a rapid Return on Investment from Pinacl’s IoT solutions.

Pinacl has launched an Ultimate IoT Pack to help local authorities implement sensors including our waste management solution.
